Safety footwear for business and the office: a professional look and reliable protection

In modern working life, the boundaries between the office and production, field work and the workshop are becoming increasingly blurred. ATLAS business safety footwear is the ideal solution, particularly in companies where staff regularly move between the office, meeting rooms, the warehouse or the production floor. It combines a smart, professional appearance with the key protective features required in day-to-day working life.

Stylish protection for everyday business life

ATLAS business safety shoes are designed to complement classic business outfits such as suits, chinos or trousers. At the same time, they meet the safety and comfort requirements necessary for everyday working life. This means you can maintain a professional appearance without having to compromise on protection or comfort.

Typical areas of use for business safety footwear:

  • Offices and administrative departments with regular site inspections
  • Managers and field staff with access to production facilities
  • Architects, site managers and project managers who move between the office and the building site
  • Facility management and technical services
  • Reception and service areas in industrial companies

Why do business professionals need safety footwear?

The need for safety footwear in a business context is often underestimated. Yet dangers lurk even in seemingly safe environments. During site inspections, falling tools or components can cause serious crushing injuries. On building sites, there is a risk of injury from nails, screws or sharp-edged materials. In warehouse areas, there is a risk from falling parcels or pallets. In facility management, technical staff are exposed to trip hazards and sharp objects on a daily basis. During machine inspections in production halls, there is a risk of crushing injuries and slipping on oil-slicked floors. Even when working in the field, travelling between client appointments and production sites, conditions are constantly changing. The employers’ liability insurance associations stipulate that safety footwear must be worn in many of these areas. In accordance with Section 5 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (ArbSchG), employers must carry out a risk assessment and implement appropriate protective measures. As soon as this assessment identifies a risk to the feet, safety footwear is mandatory – regardless of whether you are a managing director, project manager or field representative.

Important: Unlike in purely administrative areas, where normal business shoes are sufficient, you must wear certified safety footwear in mixed-use work areas or when making regular visits to production sites. Business safety footwear allows you to move freely between all areas without having to change your shoes.

OUR SHOE RECOMMENDATION

The business sector: A wide range of requirements for a shoe

Office and administration with site inspections

Your working day begins at your desk, takes you through the production halls at lunchtime and ends with a meeting with a client. Traditional safety footwear would detract from your professional appearance – yet standard business shoes are not permitted in production or warehouse areas.

Requirements: An elegant look for the office and meetings; safety class S1 or S2 for visits to warehouses and production areas; high levels of comfort for long periods of sitting and standing; a lightweight design for frequent changes of location; and a slip-resistant sole suitable for various floor surfaces.

ATLAS recommendation: The CX series combines a sleek business look with S1/S2 protection and ESD properties. Perfect for moving between the office, the warehouse and production halls.

Architects, site managers and project managers

As an architect or site manager, you act as a liaison between the design office and the realities of the building site. Meetings with clients in the morning, site inspections at lunchtime, then back at the drawing board or in meetings in the afternoon. You represent your company whilst also needing protection on the building site.

Requirements: A professional appearance for client contact, at least safety class S3(S/L) for access to the building site, puncture protection against nails and sharp objects, waterproof upper material for outdoor use, a robust sole for uneven terrain, and high levels of comfort for long walks on site.

ATLAS recommendation: The RUNNER range offers S3(S/L) protection with a sporty, modern look. Ideal for site managers who commute between the office and demanding building sites.

Important: The German Construction Industry Insurance Association (BG BAU) generally requires S3(S/L) safety footwear for site visits – regardless of whether, as a site manager, you visit the site only occasionally or regularly. Even brief site inspections require full protection.

Field staff and sales with production site visits

As a field representative or sales manager, you are the face of your company. You visit customers in their offices, as well as in production halls, warehouses and workshops. Your appearance must be professional – whilst at the same time you must comply with your customers’ safety regulations.

Requirements: Business-appropriate appearance (suitable for a suit or business-casual attire), safety class S1 or S2 is sufficient for most production site visits, ESD protection for the electronics and semiconductor industries, quick to put on and take off when moving between locations frequently, lightweight construction for plenty of movement, and a flexible sole for comfortable walking.

ATLAS recommendation: The CX 40 ESD S1 and CX 50 ESD S1 are visually almost indistinguishable from classic business lace-ups. Their ESD features make them ideal for client visits to sensitive production areas.

Facility Management and Technical Services

In facility management, you are responsible for the maintenance of buildings, technical installations and outdoor facilities. Your day-to-day work is extremely varied: from repair work and maintenance to coordination tasks. You work in basements, on roofs, in boiler rooms, technical centres and outdoor facilities.

Requirements: Robust safety class S2 or S3(S/L) for versatile use, waterproof upper material for outdoor and wet areas, slip-resistant sole for various surfaces, high levels of comfort for 8–10 hours a day, practical fastenings for frequent putting on and taking off, and hard-wearing materials for intensive use.

ATLAS recommendation: The RUNNER 95 XP ESD S3S combines S3S protection with the comfort of a sports shoe. Waterproof, puncture-resistant and yet lightweight – ideal for the wide range of tasks in facility management.

Tip: Facility managers should always opt for S3(S/L) footwear, even if S2 would suffice in some areas. This ensures you are prepared for all situations without having to keep several pairs of shoes on hand.

IT and Technology: Data centres, server rooms and technical areas

IT technicians, network administrators and technical support staff often work in server rooms, data centres and technical areas. Special requirements apply here: ESD protection is mandatory to safeguard sensitive electronic components from electrostatic discharge.

Requirements: Certified ESD protection in accordance with EN 61340-5-1; safety class S1 is sufficient for indoor use; lightweight, flexible construction for freedom of movement; slip-resistant sole for smooth floor surfaces in data centres; and a clean, neat appearance suitable for a professional environment.

ATLAS recommendation: All CX models with ESD features comply with the ESD standard and offer reliable protection for electronic components.

Important: ESD footwear does not protect the wearer from electric shocks, but rather protects electronic components from damage caused by electrostatic discharge! Special electricians’ boots are required for work on live parts (electricians).

Reception, service and customer contact in industrial companies

Reception staff, guest guides and service personnel in industrial companies require smart footwear for customer reception, whilst also needing safety footwear for factory tours and when accompanying visitors through production areas.

Requirements: An elegant, professional appearance for reception areas; safety class S1 for production visits; a comfortable fit for prolonged standing; a quiet sole for discreet movement in office areas; and easy-care material for a neat and tidy appearance.

ATLAS recommendation: The CX series in black is the perfect choice for high-end customer service. Elegant enough for the reception area, safe enough for factory tours.
